Understanding Consensual Nonmonogamy

Deconstruction Definition: a process that occurs when one recognizes a norm and puts energy into determining why it is a norm and whether it is or could be a healthy intentional choice for themselves or others

Synonyms: unpack

Added context from Hanna & Lizzie:

When knowledge has been accepted without being deconstructed, we say it is assumed. A norm that has not been deconstructed can often be performed with less energy than its alternatives. Although, a catalyst for deconstruction is that for someone personally, the act of deconstructing the norm requires less energy than forcing themselves to comply with the norm. For example, there are those in the CNM community who identify as nonmonogamous by “orientation” rather than by choice, meaning that they feel innately nonmonogamous. For them, to perform monogamy might require more effort even though it is the norm because it feels inauthentic to them.
